Richard
Alan Kranzler
Dick Kranzler, a native New Yorker, has
always been fascinated with images. From an early age he wanted to become
an artist. Painting was his first love, but photography became his true
passion after discovering that it allowed him to paint with light.
While studying graphic arts at Pratt Institute,
Dick interned for fashion photographer Stan Shaffer. After graduating
in 1971, he spent a year shooting fashion in Milan, Italy, where his
work was featured in an 8-page editorial layout in Il Diaframma Fotographia
Italiana. Upon returning to NYC, Dick further developed his skills
as studio manager for celebrated photographer Pete Turner.
In 1976, Dick opened his own studio in Chelsea,
and it's still his home base. Throughout the 70s and 80s, his advertising
and editorial photographs appeared in leading publications, such as GQ,
New York Magazine, Cosmopolitan, and Popular Photography .
In the late 80s, however, Dick experienced
an epiphany during an extended trip to Greece. He was completely taken
with life as a "traveler." Every year since Dick has trekked
to some corner of the planet to shoot places and people far off the beaten
path.
Over the years, Dick has shared his adventures
with friends and family through a series of letters and emails - each
offering his unique and colorful perspective on navigating the world
in a way most of us only dare to dream about. Some of these chronicles
are featured with the photographs on this site. Pictures painted both
with light and words. |
